1. What is the “social determinants of health” model/framework? (3 points)
a. Provide several examples of its scope (i.e. what it includes). (3 points)

2. Read Audre Lorde’s (2009) “There is no hierarchy of oppression.”
a. What is the “hierarchy of oppression”? Provide an example other than that discussed in the reading. (3 points)
b. Why is it imperative that we recognize there is no hierarchy of oppression for addressing the social determinants of health? (3 points)

3. Briefly describe your ideal health-related occupation (you must choose 1!) and the population(s) that you will likely serve. (2 points)
a. In what ways might a focus on lifestyle behaviors limit your ability to respond to your client/patient’s health and well-being? (2 points)
b. In what ways might a social determinants of health model approach improve your ability to respond to your client/patient’s health and well-being? (2 points)

4. Reading about and discussing the social determinants of health and health disparities can be frustrating and disheartening.
a. Thinking about the numerous topics that we have discussed in class, what gives you hope that disparities in health outcomes will decrease? Explain. (Warning: Responding “I don’t have hope” will yield a score of zero.) (3 points)
